Tips for a Safe Foot Care Service

Keep your clients' feet healthy and happy

In busy or stressful times, looking after yourself matters more than ever. Self-care isn't just a luxury; it's a simple way to restore balance and feel like yourself again. Even something as small as caring for your feet can bring a sense of calm, relaxation, and confidence at the heart of this, is a safe, hygienic pedicure that supports both beauty and health .

1. Prioritise Cleanliness

Hygiene is non-negotiable. All tools should be properly cleaned and disinfected or sterilised between clients. Disposable items like nail files, buffers, and toe separators should never be reused.

Pro Tip for Professionals: Use high-grade disinfectants and always follow the manufacturer's instructions for proper tool sanitation.

2. Inspect Feet Before Starting

A visual foot assessment is a must before any pedicure. Use the Footlogix® Pedicure Information Form to check for common skin issues like rough, peeling, cracked, or dry skin. If there's open skin such as a cut or wound, explain to the client that it's best to postpone the service and refer them to a healthcare professional.

Healthy feet first — never proceed with a pedicure on compromised skin.

3. Be Gentle with Cuticles

Know the anatomy of the skin and nails. Understand the difference between the cuticle (dead skin with no blood supply) and the nail fold (live skin with blood supply). Soften cuticles with a professional product like the Footlogix® Cuticle Softener, and remove the cuticle cleanly from the nail plate for a successful polish application. Avoid sharp tools that could damage the skin. The Footlogix® Excavator Round Edge with File is a suitable tool for safely cleaning the cuticle from the nail plate.

Healthy skin is intact skin.

4. Choose the Right Products

Avoid harsh or overly abrasive scrubs that can irritate the skin, especially for clients with diabetes or sensitive feet. Opt for gentle, professional-grade  exfoliants like the Footlogix Exfoliating Seaweed Scrub and moisturisers designed specifically for foot care. Footlogix® uses dermal-infusion technology that penetrates deeply while staying safe and non-aggressive.

5. Avoid Razor Blades

Leave the cutting of skin to a podiatrist or medical professional. You can achieve safe, effective exfoliation using a foot file or a professional-grade callus softener to smooth dry areas. The Footlogix® Callus Softener Spray and Footlogix® Professional Foot File are a match made in heaven.

6. Keep Tools Dry and Stored Properly

After sanitising, tools should be thoroughly dried and stored in a clean, closed container. Moist environments encourage bacteria and fungal growth.

7. Educate Clients

Share foot care tips with your clients and encourage regular maintenance between salon visits. Recommend products that help maintain foot health at home, especially for clients with concerns like cracked heels or fungal nails. Consider offering retail options like the Footlogix® Cracked Heel Formula or Nail Tincture, along with the range of moisturising solutions for daily maintenance.

To make home care recommendations easy to follow, use the Footlogix® At-Home Care Pad.
